MS SHORT MOVIE CHALLENGE TERMS & CONDITIONS
- This is an agreement between the participant as mentioned in Box 1 of the Participation Form (the “Participant”), and Medianet Private Limited (the “Medianet”), with respect to Participant’s involvement in the “MS Short Movie Challenge” (the “Competition”) and creation of a short film (the “Film”) pursuant to the terms below.
- The Participant hereby agrees to take part in the Competition.
- The Participant has read and agrees to abide by the Competition Official Rules, by reference made a part hereof. It is understood that Medianet reserves the right to disqualify from screening or exhibition and remove from consideration for prizes any Films, which do not adhere to the Official Rules.
- The Participant hereby understands that the Participant is responsible for all crew, cast, equipment, sets, locations, and other items necessary for participating in the Competition, and all costs, expenses, damages and claims related thereto.
- The Participant hereby affirms that the Participant will secure all rights in and to all material included in the Film, including without limitation copyrights and any and all images, photographs, performances, appearance(s) by any person(s), sounds, soundtrack and music (including compositions, recordings and performances). The Participant represents and warrants that the Film does not violate the copyright of any person or entity, or defame or infringe upon any rights of any kind of, including the right of privacy, off any person or entity.
- The Participant hereby agrees to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Medianet, its shareholders, officers, directors, employees, licensees, partners and assigns (collectively “Indemnified Parties”) from any and all claims, costs, damages, expenses and liabilities including without limitation attorneys’ fees (collectively “Claims”) arising from the creation, production, use, exhibition, promotion, marketing, merchandising, or other exploitation of the Film by the Indemnified Parties and/or any of them, thereof (including without limitation Claims for negligence and other torts, unauthorized use of likeness, invasion of right of privacy, publicity or personality, defamation, fraud, infringement of copyright and/or trademark, and breach of contract), and for any breach by the Participant of any representation, warranty or obligation of Team Leader hereunder.
- The Participant will own the copyright in and to the Film, and hereby agrees to the following grant of rights
- This agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Maldives and all claims must be resolved in the courts located in the Republic of Maldives.
- The Participant hereby acknowledges that participation in the Competition is without remuneration or monetary compensation whatsoever, other than the prizes stated in the Official Rules. The additional consideration for participating in the Competition is the inclusion of Participant’s Film on MS (Medianet’s video on demand platform).
- The Participant acknowledges that, in the event of any breach by Medianet or any third party, the damage, if any, caused to Participant thereby will not be irreparable or otherwise sufficient to entitle the Participant to seek injunctive or other equitable relief. The Participant’s rights and remedies in such event will be strictly limited to the right, if any, to recover compensatory (but not punitive or consequential) damages in an action at law, and Participant will have neither the right to rescind or terminate this agreement or any of Medianet’s rights hereunder, nor the right to enjoin the exhibition or other exploitation of the Film or any subsidiary or allied rights with respect thereto.
- The Participant acknowledges and agrees that the Participant is not an employee or agent of Medianet for any purpose, including all tax obligations.
- Medianet will not be liable for any special, indirect or consequential damages, without limitation, damages arising under any claim or cause of action, including contract, warranty, strict liability or tort, whether or not Medianet has been advised of the possibility of such damages.

from the date the Participant submits the Film to the Competition:
- For the Films that win any of the prizes as mentioned in the Official Rules, Medianet shall have the following rights, which shall be exclusive to Medianet for a period of 1 (One) year and non-exclusive for a period of 1 (one) year following the successive anniversary of the exclusive period: to copy, screen, show, exhibit, telecast, broadcast, rebroadcast, advertise, market, exploit, and disseminate the Film and/or any portion thereof throughout the universe via any medium and in any manner whether now known or hereafter invented.
- For the non-winning Films, Medianet shall have the following rights, which shall be exclusive to Medianet for a period of 2 (Two) months and non-exclusive for a period of 22 (Twenty-Two) months following the successive anniversary of the exclusive period: to copy, screen, show, exhibit, telecast, broadcast, rebroadcast, advertise, market, exploit, and disseminate the Film and/or any portion thereof throughout the universe via any medium and in any manner whether now known or hereafter invented.
OFFICIAL RULES FOR MS SHORT FILM CHALLENGE
- ELIGIBILITY
- The participant must reside in Maldives or hold Maldivian Citizenship. In case of an entity, it must be registered at the Maldivian Ministry of Economic Development.
- There is no entrance fee for the "MS Short Film Challenge" (the "Competition").
- DEADLINES
- To submit interest in the Competition please download the participation form (the “Form”) from www.medianet.mv/downloads, fill in the Form, sign it, and email it with a copy of your National ID Card/Registration Certificate to content@medianet.com.mv. If an entity is participating in the Competition, please also attach the company profile of the entity issued by the Ministry of Economic Development of Republic of Maldives and National ID Card/Passport scans of the directors/partners of the entity.
- The deadline to submit interest in participating in the competition is 17:00hrs on 3 March 2022.
- Anyone who satisfies Clause 1.1 and submits the Form in Clause 2.1 by the deadline mentioned in Clause 2.2 will be considered a Participant in the Competition.
- Deadline to submit the short film in the Competition is 25 March 2022.
- Only the works submitted by the deadline will be considered part of the Competition.
- Failure to submit a short film by the deadline in Clause 2.4 will be considered as the Participant forfeiting their participation in the Competition.
- VIDEOGRAPHY
- All videos should be shot in 1080p50 full HD or higher quality.
- Animations and special effects are permitted. (Note: Stock footage as part of a special effect in a third-party special effects program is permissible)
- Still photographs and stock footage are permitted if the participant has the right to them.
- THEME
- Theme of the submitting film can be any choice in genre except politics or anti-religious content and may not contain any content that conflicts with Maldives' Constitution, Laws and Regulations.
- EQUIPMENT
- All equipment used in the shoot should be fit for HD and all footage must be recorded in HD. Shooting in lower grade and upscaling is not an option.
- MUSIC
- It is permissible for a participating group to use pre-recorded music; however, the participant must have the rights for all music used.
- As with music, pre-recorded sound effects are allowed, but you must have rights to use them.
- LENGTH OF THE FILM
- The finished film must not exceed 40 minutes in duration (not including the credits)
- Credits at the end of the film is limited to a maximum of 60 Seconds.
- Opening credits are considered to be part of the film.
- SUBMISSION
- The completed film should be submitted in 1080p50 MP4 format.
- The film should be submitted with the following ("Marketing Assets"):
- Content trailer (30 seconds) in 1080p50 MP4 format
- Content trailer (1 minute minimum) in 1080p50 MP4 format
- Title poster in PSD format
- Character posters in PSD format
- Synopsis
- Cast details
- The completed film can be submitted onto a Google Drive folder or USB Flash Drive.
- To be eligible entries:
- must be the original work of the Participant;
- must not infringe third-party's rights;
- must be suitable for public broadcasting and should be ethically and culturally suitable for the local viewers (i.e., may not be obscene or indecent);
- must not contain obscene or pornographic material, profanity, may not contain defamatory statements about any person, company, organization or entity;
- may not invade privacy or other rights of any person, company or entity;
- may not in any other way violate applicable laws and regulations of the Maldives; and
- may not contain any copyrighted elements (other than as owned by the Participant).
- COPYRIGHT
- The Participant should not distribute their film in any way or publish it in any platforms prior to the conclusion of the Competition. This includes uploading the film to any websites.

- Participant may disseminate the Marketing Assets listed in Clause 8.2 to promote the Competition and their short film.
- JUDGING AND VOTING
- The Marketing Assets will be featured on Medianet's social media pages.
- The films will be uploaded onto MS (Medianet's video on demand platform)
- Winner will be selected via a combination of voting from the judge's panel and unique views on the short film on MS

- Does the story have a clear structure and plot?
- Are the characters adequately developed and relevant?
- Is the story original and engaging?
- Are the images arranged logically and effectively in a way that fits the narration?
- Does the film have pace and continuity?

- Does the writing and direction use imaginative and creative ways to convey the theme?
- Does the film exhibit originality?
- Does the film display innovative ideas or story telling techniques?

- Engagement (20%)
- How strongly does this entry stimulate thoughts and ideas?
- Does the film provoke an emotional response?
- Technical Quality

- Cinematography (10%)
- Is the camera steady and are the shots framed and focused?
- Are close-ups and camera angles used to add meaning to the story?
- Is the lighting and camera positioning visually effective?

- Editing (5%)
- Does the editing help to clarify the story and enhance the pacing and flow of the story?
- Are transitions smooth and well-paced or distracting?
- Are the opening titles and closing credits appealing and easy to read?

- Audio, Music, Sound Effects (5%)
- Does the audio and soundtrack complement the story?
- Is the dialogue and/or narration clear and easy to understand?
- If there are sound effects, are they appropriate to the story or do they detract
- WINNER SELECTION AND PRIZES
- Films with the highest votes will be rewarded as winners;
1st Prize: MVR 100,000.00
2nd Prize: MVR 50,000.00
3rd Prize: MVR 30,000.00
Contract to be agreed at a future date with Medianet to produce original content.*
* The content produced under the future contract will be to a concept both parties agree, and Medianet will bear the cost of the production.
