Homeland’s concluding Season 8 is premiering exclusively on Medianet’s FX HD (Ch813) at 19:00 on 10th February 2020 (Monday). Homeland’s premise started with Carrie Mathison (played by Claire Danes), a Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) officer with bipolar disorder and sidekick Saul Berenson (played by Mandy Patinkin), suspecting that Nicholas Brody (played by Damian Lewis), who been held captive by Al-Qaeda as a prisoner of war, had been corrupted and returned back to plot a terrorist attack against the United States. After a long wait, Carrie is reluctantly back to help Saul, who is currently the National Security Advisor to President Warner, initiate peace negotiations with the Taliban. Carrie had just been recovering from her imprisonment and torture in a Russian gulag, and it wasn’t long before she was called back in to duty by Saul, despite the US government suspecting her of being a traitor. Homeland has won multiple awards including the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series (2013, 2012) and Claire Danes won the Golden Globe Award for Best Performance (2013, 2012). Homeland’s success made Danes a prominent TV star, and sparked a movement of a number of female antiheroes on TV series. The show also was a one of the first series in the history of television to introduce accurate portrayals of mental illnesses, particularly bipolar disorder. The National Alliance on Mental Illness hailed the series as “one of the first TV shows to feature a female protagonist living with bipolar disorder – and one many say isn’t wholly defined by her illness”.
